365 days has passed - oh how they have whizzed by so quickly. The ups and downs, the rights and wrongs, and the black and white of 2011 are now a part of our individual histories in the shape of blurred memories in the back of our heads.
I want to get to the point quickly because here comes the best part of this post, my inevitable list of “The Goods and The Bads of 2011”. Just like every year, I compile a short list of occurrences or events which have highlighted the year for me and to look back on all of the amazing things in life that I have been blessed with. So here we go.
The Goods:
- Rebecca Black’s Friday. No matter how terrible and ear-numbing her auto-tuned voice sound on that awful “song”, or noise, or whatever you want to call it, it did made us all smile. It was too just funny. How could anyone write such a bad song? Apparently some one could. And someone did. But, thank God the hype only lasted a couple of weeks.
- Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. I hated the first Sherlock Holmes film. It was entertaining. However, I loved the ORIGINAL Sherlock Holmes. I’m talking about the proper Sherlock Holmes - you know, from the book. I used to read them back in Middle School in English class and it was fantastic. It got me thinking that I wanted to be a detective someday. The real Sherlock Holmes couldn’t fight a physical fight but he would win an intellectual war against anyone. So the film is quite different. But, by the time the second film was released, it changed my whole perception about the film. The new Holmes was still cool, but in an action-packed-but-still-uber-genius kind of way. Loved the film. I’m going to download it and keep it for future viewing.
- July 2011 - Dec 2011 at MINI. It was a brief working experience which I will not forget. Jakarta was unique. I hated living there, and I still don’t like that city. But, my dislike for it disappears every time I walk into the office and meet the people that have become my family. I’m going to miss them so much.
- The short holiday back to Palembang. I finally get to meet my parents again in my hometown. They returned from Qatar after my dad’s retirement from work and have decided to make some re-decorations of our house. So my dad got us some Majlis (Arabic style furnitures) and bought this huge ass LCD TV (which resulted in my left eye needing a cylinder upgrade on my glasses) and fixed some massive home theatre set to go along with it. It was a huge surprise to me because my parents were never an avid fan of these things. But I guess the mid-life crisis has finally kicked in.
The Bads:
- Barcelona FC. Those fuckers have won all of the trophies there is to be won in club football (again). I hate it. I hate THEM. Is this jealousy? Probably. But the thing is. I love their football. Love it to bits. Sexy passing football that would make any male football fans needing a tissue every time they watch Barcelona play because, let’s be honest, they make us jizz in our pants. But, those wins make them so arrogant. Especially the fans. Their fans. Those bastards. For once I just wish someone would just put a sock in each of their mouths to shut them up. The bragging just needs to stop. Real Madrid needs to beat their asses 10-0 so they would fucking pipe down for even just one minute.
- Fallen dictators. I know this should be up there in the “Goods” list because those guys (Kim Jong-Il, Ghaddafi and Mubarak) probably deserves to be gone from this planet (with all due respect and rest in peace to them). However, this only means one thing, more Western intervention. I am not going to name any particular countries - but they are most likely to come from somewhere in the northern part of the American continent - to come and create massive propaganda about them being the saviour of the world, and everyone else who are against them are the enemies. Bastards.
- The Ferrari 458 Italia. It was out in 2010. I couldn’t afford it back then. I still can’t afford it now. Gutted.
- Indonesian K-POP wannabes. Girl bands like Cherrybelle, and some others which I don’t know the name of, are just plain annoying. As if the Indonesian music industry isn’t as crappy enough as it is now, the industry then thought, “how can we make more money out of some noise which has some words in it and sell it to the simple-minded people of Indonesia?”. And sadly enough, they found the answer. If you think that’s bad. The worst part is, even the men have joined in to become one of those K-POP wannabe boy bands. Come on! Seriously? What the fuck?
- Steve Jobs 1955 - 2011. Thank you so much for Apple. Rest in peace.
- Jakarta. Did I mention how much I don’t like that city? I’m saying it again. I don’t like it.
So that’s basically it. The highlights of my 2011. There’s probably more of it but I may just have forgotten to write them in the post or just cannot be bothered with it.
Anyways, I guess this is good bye then, 2011.
And hello, 2012!
