So what is a tablet good for? Read eBooks. Alright. Browse the internet. Okay. Watch movies and listen to some music. Cool.
But I can do all that with my laptop. So let me ask you again. What is a tablet good for?
It isn’t good enough to replace a PC a laptop, and it’s not practical enough to rid us of our reliable pocket-sized smart phones. So, it’s a niche product then.
The Apple iPad seems to be the best one on the market. It’s certainly the best selling one. Through Steve Jobs’ team of designers and marketers, it has established itself as the number one selling tablet in the world. More than 15 million units have been sold since its first introduction just a little over a year ago.
So, for a business, it is a profitable product then. And everyone in the industry wants a piece of the pie. Samsung came up with its Galaxy Tab. Toshiba has the Thrive. Motorola with the Xoom and so have others with their own respective “pad” devices.
But seriously, what good does it do for me - the consumer? I keep asking this question over and over again because simply: I want one. No. I crave for a tablet!
The thing is. I own a 15” Macbook Pro and thought that it was too much for my daily use. So I bought myself a simpler, less powerful 11” HP Pavilion dm1 notebook. And even that I believe is more than enough for what I really use a computer for.
So maybe a tablet is the solution…
For the last few weeks I’ve been steadily losing my grip on the resistance of making a purchase for one of those things. Price, performance, design, OS and everything else there is to know about the tablet - I’ve read through countless numbers of reviews. Youtube videos. All to compare which tablet is the best one to buy.
And I have come up with several choices. One is the Apple iPad. The other is the Asus EEE Pad Transformer (it sounds more like a fax machine but nonetheless a great product), and the Blackberry Playbook.
These are the ones that I like the most. And I’ve almost made up my mind on which one of them is the one that I’m going to buy (hint: the first one from the last).
But, I still can’t help myself to wonder: is it worth it?
